Khenpo Gyatso, Principal of Sakya College offered this beautiful retreat place to be used as the Nuns' Institute of higher Education.
 
Nuns are trained for about 10 years to become qualified Dharma teachers (equivalent of female Khenpo) for the next generation.

"Buddhist philosophical texts are very deep and profound.  In order to understand them, thorough study is required. Therefore, the establishment of a nuns' college is very important".

Based on available funds, about 25 outstanding nuns have been chosen from among many applicants to become the first cohort of students.

Just for your kind information, I want to present an update of studies at the college.

The nuns first year at the college is Pre-first Year where they are introduced to basic Buddhist texts: Letter to a Friend by Acharya Nagarjuna and basic Buddhist dialetic texts divided into parts and basic Tibetan, English or Hindi. But the actual course starts from class 1 which is their second year at the college.
Besides, Buddhist philosophy and languages classes, the nuns take active participation in philosophical debate sessions.

The class 1 ( Second Year )nuns study Bodhisattvacaryavatara by Learned Acharya Shantideva and its commentary by Ngulchu Thokmed.

The senior students who are in class 3 ( Fourth Year ) study Prajnamulamadhyamaka Karika text by Learned Acharya Nagarjuna and its commentary by Kunkhyen Gorampa. The nuns are regularly attending Buddhist philosophy teachings and debate sessions at evening and night.
