This centre, near Boudhanath Stupa, was offered to His Holiness Sakya Trichen in 2011 by His Eminence Tashi Chophel Rinpoche after he went into long-term retreat in Tibet. About 90 young and senior nuns reside and practise here.
The premises were affected by the earthquake in Nepal in March and June 2015. The nunnery had undergone repairs to recover from the devastating effect of the earthquake in the last few years which is now completed. The nuns can now focus on their study and practice of the Buddha Dharma.
Currently, the nunnery is embarking on a fundraising program to build new classrooms and hostels for the nuns.
* Sakya Rinchen Choeling and Vajrayogini Meditation Centre for Nuns are affiliated sharing the same religious order and lineage. However, they are independently managed where the respective nunneries are registered societies with their own governmental and financial reporting.
